Today, Sen. Jennifer McClellan (D-Richmond), released the following statement on Virginia’s approval by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to proceed with establishing a state-based health insurance exchange. McClellan sponsored the Senate bill establishing the exchange; Del. Mark Sickles (D-Fairfax) carried the House bill.
“This is a momentous day for affordable healthcare in Virginia,” McClellan said. “More than a decade after the passage of the Affordable Care Act, Virginians will finally have access to a state-run exchange to lower costs and provide more access to health care coverage. This is a major win for Virginians at a critical time, when families are facing increasing health needs amid the pandemic. I’m proud to have worked with Del. Sickles on passing the legislation to make this possible.”
